host0 vs Netlify: share a private link for free, with data and no server code

host0 vs Netlify for what your agent made: private links you can share by email on the free plan and shared data with no functions, vs a full web platform.

Checked Oct 28, 2026Sources

The short answer

Choose host0 if your agent made a page, a PDF or a small app and you want to share it privately with a few people by email without a paid team plan, or the app needs shared data and you don't want to write server code. Choose Netlify if you're shipping a real website: builds from git, a framework, serverless functions, a Postgres database, deploy previews and your own domain, all of which it does well and host0 doesn't do yet. Free plan, no card. Pro is $19 a month.

Choose host0 if

Recommended
  • You want to share a private link with specific people by email on the free plan; on Netlify's Free and Personal plans a private project is visible to its owner only.
  • The people you share with should sign in with an email code or Google, not create an account on a developer platform.
  • Your agent built a tracker, a todo list or a sign-up sheet, and the team should read and write the same data with no functions or database to set up.
  • You share PDFs, images and Markdown as often as sites, and want each file to open in a viewer at its own link.
  • You want hosting that never pauses your links when a monthly allowance runs out.

Choose Netlify if

  • You deploy from a git repository and want builds, frameworks, branch deploys and a deploy preview for every pull request.
  • You need your own domain with free SSL today, on every plan.
  • Your app needs server code: serverless or edge functions, Netlify Database (Postgres) or Blobs storage.
  • You want to deploy from ChatGPT or claude.ai through an official connector, or run coding agents from the Netlify dashboard.
  • You want to publish before you have an account and claim the site afterwards.

At a glance

Which one fits depends on what you're sharing: each row marks the one that's ahead.

Who can open it
host0

Private by default for every account. Only you can open a new link until you invite people, open it to anyone with the link, or make it public on the web.

Netlify

Private by default for teams created since July 2026; older teams can opt in. A shared password is a Pro option.

Sharing with a team
host0

Better: Invite people by email on every plan. They sign in with an email code or Google; removing someone cuts access on their next request.

Netlify

On Free and Personal a private project is visible to its owner only. Pro invites unlimited people by email; they sign in with a Netlify account.

Shared data
host0

Better: Shared records your app reads and writes on its own URL, with rules for who can read, add or change them. No server code.

Netlify

Forms collects submissions from plain HTML forms, free and unlimited. Netlify Database (Postgres) and Blobs are used from functions.

How you publish
host0

The skill or CLI from your agent, a drop on the dashboard, or the REST API. No build step and no git integration: host0 serves the files it's given.

Netlify

Better: Git with builds and framework detection, the CLI, the API, a Deploy button, and Netlify Drop for a folder or a zip.

From your agent
host0

A skill and a CLI publish from Claude (the claude.ai sandbox included), Cursor, Codex or any agent with a shell. The MCP server manages apps but doesn't deploy.

Netlify

Better: Skills, a CLI, an MCP server that deploys, a Claude connector, a ChatGPT app, one-click installs for Cursor and VS Code, and Agent Runners in the dashboard.

Account and sign-in
host0

An account first, by email code or Google; an agent gets its key through a device login, with nothing personal typed into the chat.

Netlify

Better: Drop and the CLI can publish with no account; you claim the project to keep it. An unclaimed CLI deploy is removed after an hour.

What it hosts
host0

Sites and folders, HTML, PDFs, images, video, audio, Markdown and text; a file opened on its own gets a viewer page.

Netlify

Any static site or file, plus framework projects it builds for you, with an image CDN.

Versions and undo
host0

Every deploy is a numbered version; restore any one in a click. 30 days of version history on Pro, the live version on Free.

Netlify

Better: Publish any earlier deploy as the live one. Deploys are kept 30 days on Free, 90 on paid plans.

Analytics
host0

Cookieless analytics on every app: total visits on Free, full analytics (full, 90 days) on Pro.

Netlify

Server-side web analytics: the current and past day on Free, 24 hours on Personal, 30 days on Pro.

Custom domains
host0

Not yet. Custom domains are coming to Pro.

Netlify

Better: Custom domains with free SSL on every plan, and domains you can buy through Netlify.

Server code
host0

No server code yet. Apps are files plus shared records.

Netlify

Better: Serverless functions, edge functions, background work and AI model access, metered in credits.

Free plan limits
host0

3 MB per file, 500 MB in total; 10,000 visits a month (a soft limit: it never blocks). Redeploys don't draw on a monthly allowance.

Netlify

300 credits a month: 15 per production deploy, 20 per GB of bandwidth. When they run out, every project pauses until the next cycle.

Price
host0

Free plan with private links and email invites. Pro is $19 a month or $190 a year.

Netlify

Free, Personal $9 and Pro $20 a month with unlimited members. Inviting people to a private project starts on Pro.

Netlify is one of the largest platforms for building and hosting websites and web apps. It builds your site from git, runs serverless and edge functions, and adds forms, a Postgres database, blob storage, deploy previews and custom domains. It also courts agents: skills, a CLI, an MCP server that deploys, connectors for Claude and ChatGPT, and Agent Runners that run coding agents inside its dashboard. In 2026 it made new projects private by default for new teams.

host0 does a narrower job: it hosts whatever your agent made — a page, a folder, a PDF, a small app — at a link, and makes sharing it with a few people simple. The two now share a default, since both start private. The difference is what happens next. On Netlify's Free and Personal plans a private project stays visible to its owner only; inviting people needs Pro. On host0 you invite people by email on the free plan, they sign in with a one-time code or Google, and the app can keep shared data without a function or a database of its own.

Who can open the link

host0

A new app on host0 is private. Opening the link sends anyone but you to a sign-in page, so a draft, a client deck or an internal dashboard isn't on the open web just because it has a URL.

When it's ready you choose: invite specific people by email, open it to anyone with the link (unlisted and never indexed), or make it public on the web so search engines can find it. All three are on the free plan, and you can switch at any time.

Netlify

Netlify moved the same way in 2026. Teams created since July 2026 start with private projects, however a project is created — git, Drop, the CLI, Agent Runners or the API — and older teams can turn it on. A private project sits behind Netlify login, and people without access see a page asking them to request it.

The catch for one person sharing with a few others is the plan. On Free and Personal, a private project can be seen by its owner only. To let anyone else in you either make it public, or move to Pro, which also adds a shared password option.

Sharing with people outside your team

host0Better

On host0 you type the email addresses of the people who should see the app. They get an invitation, sign in with a one-time code or Google, and open it as themselves. Remove someone and their access ends on their next request; nobody else is affected.

The same list decides who counts as a member of the app's data, so the people you invite can add and edit records while everyone else, if you open the link, can only read.

Netlify

On Pro, Netlify shares a private project much like a document: invite someone by email, give them a role, and scope it to that one project without adding them to your whole team. Pro includes unlimited members for $20 a month.

Invited people view the site by signing in to Netlify, and the role they get also decides what they can see and do in the Netlify dashboard. That fits a team that builds together; for a client or a manager who only needs to open a page, it's a developer account to make.

Apps with shared data

host0Better

Ask your agent for a team todo list, a habit tracker or a sign-up sheet, and it can declare collections in an h0.json file next to the page. The app then reads and writes records on its own URL — no server code, no API key in the page and no database to set up.

Each collection says who can read, add, change or delete, and records can belong to the person who made them. The owner can export everything as JSON at any time. Updates are fetched by polling; there's no realtime push yet.

Netlify

Netlify Forms handles the simplest case well: add an attribute to an HTML form and submissions land in the dashboard, free and unlimited on credit plans.

For an app that reads and writes its own data, Netlify offers Netlify Database, a managed Postgres with branches for deploy previews and automatic migrations, and Blobs for key-value storage. Both are reached from functions, edge functions or builds, so the agent writes server code. That is far more powerful than host0's records, and more to build and look after.

Publishing from your agent

host0

Give your agent the host0 skill and say "deploy to host0". With no key yet, it shows you a link and a short code; you approve it in your own browser, and the agent gets its key without you typing anything personal into the chat. Redeploys upload only the files that changed.

The skill and the CLI work in Claude, including the claude.ai sandbox, Cursor, Codex and any agent that can run a shell command. The MCP server manages apps — sharing, visibility, versions, analytics — but doesn't deploy, and host0 can't publish from inside chatgpt.com.

NetlifyBetter

Netlify reaches more agents today. It publishes skills and a CLI, a remote MCP server that can deploy, a Claude connector for claude.ai and Claude Desktop, and a ChatGPT app that deploys from a conversation. Agent Runners go further and run Claude Code, Codex and other agents inside the Netlify dashboard, with a deploy preview for each change.

Its anonymous path suits agents too: the CLI can deploy with no account and gives you an hour to claim the project, and Drop publishes a folder before you sign up.

Where Netlify is ahead

host0

host0 serves the files you give it. There's no build step (your agent builds locally if the project needs one), no git integration, no custom domains yet and no server code; apps live at their own address on host0.app.

NetlifyBetter

Netlify is a complete web platform. It builds from git with framework detection, gives every pull request a deploy preview, rolls back to any earlier deploy in a click, serves custom domains with free SSL on every plan, and runs functions at the edge and in the cloud. If what your agent made is turning into a product, that's the ground Netlify covers and host0 doesn't.

Price and the free plan

host0

host0 has a free plan with no card: private links, email invites, shared data and analytics totals, with a small "Hosted on host0" badge. Pro is $19 a month or $190 a year and removes the badge, raises the limits to 50 MB per file and 10 GB, and keeps 30 days of version history.

Netlify

Netlify prices in credits. Free has 300 a month as a hard limit: a production deploy costs 15, a GB of bandwidth 20 and 10,000 web requests 2, while deploy previews and form submissions are free. When the credits run out, every project on the account pauses until the next cycle. Personal is $9 a month for 1,000 credits; Pro is $20 for 3,000 with unlimited members. New public projects on Free show a Powered by Netlify badge that you can switch off.

Questions

Is host0 a Netlify alternative?

For sharing what an agent made with a few people, yes. For hosting a website you build from git, with functions and your own domain, Netlify does far more; host0 is the simpler place for a page, a PDF or a small app you want to share privately.

Are Netlify sites private by default now?

For teams created since July 2026, new projects start private, and older teams can opt in. On the Free and Personal plans only the owner can see a private project; inviting other people needs Pro.

Do people I share with need an account?

On host0 they sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, or with Google; there's no password to set. On Netlify, people invited to a private project sign in with a Netlify account.

Can I password-protect a page on host0?

host0 doesn't use shared passwords. A private app asks visitors to sign in, and only the emails you invited get in, so you can remove one person without changing anything for the rest. Netlify offers a shared password on Pro.

Can my agent use a database on host0 like Netlify Database?

Not a database of its own. host0 gives an app shared records declared in an h0.json file, read and written from the page with no server code. If the app needs SQL, server code or migrations, Netlify Database and functions are the better fit.

Does host0 support custom domains?

Not yet; they're coming to the Pro plan. Today every app lives on its own address on host0.app.

Can I move a Netlify Drop site to host0?

Yes. Take the folder you dropped (or your build output, such as dist), and ask your agent to deploy it to host0, or drop it on the dashboard. The link starts private; share it or open it when you're ready.
