Meta tag checker
Enter a URL or paste HTML and see every tag that matters for SEO — title, description, canonical, robots, Open Graph, Twitter, and headings — with what's missing flagged.
What the checker does
Give it a URL (fetched server-side, so cross-origin pages work) or paste raw HTML, and it parses the document the way a crawler would — no JavaScript executed — then walks the head and body for every tag that affects how the page is indexed, displayed in results, and previewed when shared.
Each tag gets a pass / warn / fail verdict with the found value, so you can see at a glance what's missing, what's too long, and what's fine as-is. The Copy report button gives you the whole audit as plain text for a ticket or a message.
The tags that matter
- Title and meta description — presence and length against the 50–60 / 120–160 character guidance
- Canonical link and meta robots — the tags that decide which URL gets indexed, and whether
- Viewport and charset — the basics browsers need to render the page correctly
- Open Graph and Twitter Card tags — what link previews on social and chat apps are built from
- HTML lang, favicon links, hreflang alternates, and the h1 count
Frequently asked questions
Which tags does the checker look at?
The ones that matter for search and sharing: the title tag, meta description, canonical link, meta robots, viewport, charset, the html lang attribute, Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type), Twitter Card tags, favicon links, hreflang links, and the h1 count.
What are the ideal title and description lengths?
Roughly 50–60 characters for the title and 120–160 for the meta description. Google truncates by pixel width, not characters, so these are guidelines — but staying in range keeps your snippet from being cut off in most results.
Can I check a page that isn't live yet?
Yes — switch to Paste HTML and drop in the full source. Everything is parsed in your browser, so drafts and local builds work fine.
Why does the fetched result differ from view-source?
The checker reads the HTML the server returns, before any JavaScript runs. If your framework injects meta tags client-side, crawlers that don't execute JS won't see them either — which is exactly what this tool shows you.
Does it check the X-Robots-Tag header?
No — X-Robots-Tag is an HTTP response header, not markup, so it isn't visible in the HTML this tool inspects. If indexing behaves unexpectedly with a clean robots meta tag, check your server's headers too.
Is a missing tag always a problem?
No. The verdicts are graded: fail means search engines or browsers will misbehave (no title, no viewport), warn means you're leaving something on the table (no description, no og:image), and pass means you're set. Hreflang, for example, is only needed on multilingual sites.
