MP3 to link

Drop an MP3, WAV or M4A and get a link that plays right in the browser. Send it to anyone, or make it private to the people you invite.

Drop an MP3 — get a link

Up to 3 MB, about 3 minutes of MP3 at 128 kbps. The file stays on your device until you publish; publishing needs a free host0 account: sign in with an email code or Google.

Who can listen

A new link is private: only you can open it. To send it around, flip the anyone with the link switch on the card that appears after you publish. Search engines are told not to index it, so it isn't listed anywhere, but it can be forwarded. For an unreleased track or a private recording, keep it private and invite people by email: everyone else stops at a sign-in page, and removing someone ends their access at once.

Limits, and fitting a long recording in 3 MB

  • 3 MB per file on the free plan (50 MB on Pro). That's about 3 minutes of MP3 at 128 kbps, or about 6 minutes at 64 kbps. A file over the limit is stopped before anything uploads.
  • Formats. MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, Opus and FLAC. MP3 is the safe choice: every browser plays it.

A WAV is about ten times bigger than an MP3 of the same recording, so convert first. For speech, 64 kbps mono sounds fine at half the size of a 128 kbps file:

ffmpeg: a voice recording, small

ffmpeg -i interview.wav -ac 1 -b:a 64k interview.mp3

Audacity does the same: File → Export Audio, MP3, with a lower bitrate.

Sharing something else?

The same drop works for a PDF, an image or a whole web page.

Frequently asked questions

Do people need an app or an account to listen?

Not for a link anyone can open: it plays in their browser, on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install. For a private link, the people you invite sign in once with the email address you invited.

Can people download the MP3?

Yes. The player page has a Download link, and adding ?download to the address downloads the original file. A link can't play in a browser without the file reaching it, so don't publish audio you need to keep from being saved.

How do I turn an audio file into a link on my phone?

Open this page on your phone, tap “Choose an audio file” and pick the recording from Files. A voice memo on an iPhone has to be saved to Files first, from its share menu.

Will the link expire?

No. There's no expiry date and no inactivity timer. It stays in your dashboard until you delete it.

Is there any branding?

Nothing is added to the audio. On the free plan the player page has a slim bar with the file name, a Download link and “Hosted on host0”. Pro removes the bar.

Can I replace the audio and keep the link?

Yes. A new drop on this page makes a new link, but dropping the new file on the link's Versions tab in your dashboard keeps the address.
